Has anyone used 'rescue remedy' for their dog?
My youngest dog (a 3 year old black lab) has started participating in obedience classes. Before, he was always to scared to go in the classes so he just sat at the side and watched me and my other dog working.
He was okay to meet other dogs, he just couldn't work around them. He'd get really nervous and hide behind me and he'd snap at the other dogs.
A friend told me to use 'rescue remedy' it can be used by people but she said it worked for her dog. It's made of mostly flower extracts and it's supposed to calm you down.
Has anyone used it on their dogs before? I think if it worked, poor little morgan will finally be able to come out and play without freaking out.
I have used rescue remedy in the past, but not for the purpose of training. I volunteer with a rescue organization, and when I foster a dog that is extremely nervous and needs to be still because of a broken limb or other injury, I use couple drops and it will make a 12 to 20 lb dog really sleepy.
I have also used it to keep my dog calm while flying with her on a plane. I don’t know if I would use it for training because it really makes them sleepy. I have taken three to four drops, it is for humans, and it made me sleepy like a glass of wine makes me sleepy. I was calm however after taking it.
Recently I was at a pet expo and someone from my rescue group used a spray on a dog I was fostering because she was barking at other dogs walking past our booth. It calmed her down and she was still alert, it worked really well. It’s called “shelter blendâ€.
