How do you teach a dog how to cope with seperation anxiety?
Please answer soon I'm in a race against the clock. I have until this Monday.
my dog, Shirley, whines and jumps on the door when we are gone even if there are other people home. She's very attached to me and my mom. I'm also a full time High School student and school starts in August so I need help before that.
Yes, this can take some time to work on.
First, be sure to not play up you saying goodbye and greeting when you see your dog after you return. Keep your greeting to somewhat mellow.
Second, start "training" him.. The site below has some good tips:

I leave my dog with a Molecuball filled with treats. Some people use the Kong. That can keep your pet entertained for quite a while.
Also consider getting a cheap towel that you sleep with, or a cheap undershirt that you've slept in and leave it with the dog. The scent of you helps calm the dog sometimes.
