My dog is encountering some problems with potty training..HELP?!?
She doesn't like going to the bathroom outside. And I can't seem to find why.
She'll be outside, and come in--only to pee or poo, somewhere. It's an annoyance, and I don't know how to train her.
Also, please list the basic commands a dog should know.
Thanks!
You have to ask yourself whether you have given your dog a chance to understand that you want her to pee and poo outside. To punish her if she does not understand what you want her to do is cruel and will not give the desired result.
Take her out for a walk first thing in the morning and do not go back inside until she has peed and pooed. Walk her until she has peed/pooed. Do not give up and go back in or simply leave her in the yard. Tell her that she is good when she does it outside. Do this several times a day, when she has eaten, when she has been sleeping, when she has played. You must be patient and persistent. When you have succeeded in your training and your dog pees and poos outside you can tell her "No" in a firm vocie if she goes back to doing it in the house. But always ask yourself if you have have made it possible for your dog to do the right thing. I speak from my own experience: when my dog was a puppy and failed it was because I was lazy or did not observe that she had to go out.
How old is your dog? How big is she? If a puppy pees it will stop immediately if you pick it up. Then you can carry it outside and stay outside with her until she has peed.
Realize that your dog wants to please you. If it does something you do not want it has not understood what you require of it.
A dog must know "come" and "stay". You practice it a little a time with lots of praise and goodies when she does the right thing.
