What Exactly is the Point of Crate Training your Dog/Puppy?
I've never made my dog sleep in a crate. Not even when she was a puppy. She's always slept at the end of my bed with me and when I leave the house she's very well behaved (unless I leave the garbage down by accident...) She's a border-collie/black lab mix and I'm curious. I don't have any problems with my dog. I've never had problems potty training her and I've left her at the vets overnight before with no problem. So, it doesn't seem like crate training was even necessary. Why do so many dog people insist on doing it?
because they usually think of it as a den and a safe place. Besides that you wouldn't have to pick the garbage up if the dog had it's own place to be. It is a matter of what is better always chastising a puppy or give him a safe place where he won't be in trouble. I don't mean to lock the puppy in there always. But to have him go there while you are away and unable to watch him/her so that they don't get into things that could be harmful or fatal to him/her. Those that are crate trained actually like their own space and some actually are protective of their space.
